As a European citizen, I understand first-hand the importance of digital sovereignty, especially for our public sector organisations and highly regulated industries. Today, I’m delighted to share that the AWS European Sovereign Cloud is now generally available to all customers. We first announced our plans to build this new independent cloud infrastructure in 2023, and today it’s ready to meet the most stringent sovereignty requirements of European customers with a comprehensive set of AWS services.

Meeting European sovereignty requirements
Organizations across Europe face increasingly complex regulatory requirements around data residency, operational control, and governance independence. Too often today, European organisations with the highest sovereignty requirements are stuck in legacy on-premises environments or offerings with reduced services and functionality. In response to this critical need, the AWS European Sovereign Cloud is the only fully featured and independently operated sovereign cloud backed by strong technical controls, sovereign assurances, and legal protections. Public sector entities and businesses in highly regulated industries need cloud infrastructure that provides enhanced sovereignty controls that maintain the innovation, security, and reliability they expect from modern cloud services. These organisations require assurance that their data and operations remain under European jurisdiction, with clear governance structures and operational autonomy within the European Union (EU).

A new independent cloud infrastructure for Europe
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud represents a physically and logically separate cloud infrastructure, with all components located entirely within the EU. The first AWS Region in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud is located in the state of Brandenburg, Germany, and is generally available today. This Region operates independently from existing AWS Regions. The infrastructure features multiple Availability Zones with redundant power and networking, designed to operate continuously even if connectivity with the rest of the world is interrupted.

We plan to extend the AWS European Sovereign Cloud footprint from Germany across the EU to support stringent isolation, in-country data residency, and low latency requirements. This will start with new sovereign Local Zones located in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Portugal. In addition, you will be able to extend the AWS European Sovereign Cloud infrastructure with AWS Dedicated Local Zones, AWS AI Factories, or AWS Outposts in locations you select, including your own on-premises data centres.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud and its Local Zones provide enhanced sovereign controls through its unique operational model. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will be operated exclusively by EU residents located in the EU. This covers activities such as day-to-day operations, technical support, and customer service. We’re gradually transitioning the AWS European Sovereign Cloud to be operated exclusively by EU citizens located in the EU. During this transition period, we will continue to work with a blended team of EU residents and EU citizens located in the EU.

The infrastructure is managed through dedicated European legal entities established under German law. In October 2025, AWS appointed Stéphane Israël, an EU citizen residing in the EU, as managing director. Stéphane will be responsible for the management and operations of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, including infrastructure, technology, and services, as well as leading AWS broader digital sovereignty efforts. In January 2026, AWS also appointed Stefan Hoechbauer (Vice President, Germany and Central Europe, AWS) as a managing director of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. He will work alongside Stéphane Israel to lead the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.

An advisory board comprised exclusively of EU citizens, and including two independent third-party representatives, provides additional oversight and expertise on sovereignty matters.

Enhanced data residency and control
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud provides comprehensive data residency assurances so you can meet the most stringent data residency requirements. As with our existing AWS Regions around the world, all your content remains within the Region you select unless you choose otherwise. Beyond content, customer-created metadata including roles, permissions, resource labels, and configurations also stays within the EU. The infrastructure features its own dedicated AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) and billing system, all operating independently within European borders.

Technical controls built into the infrastructure prevent access to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud from outside the EU. The infrastructure includes a dedicated European trust service provider for certificate authority operations and uses dedicated Amazon Route 53 name servers. These servers will only use European Top-Level Domains (TLDs) for their own names. The AWS European Sovereign Cloud has no critical dependencies on non-EU personnel or infrastructure.

Security and compliance framework
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud maintains the same core security capabilities you expect from AWS, including encryption, key management, access governance, and the AWS Nitro System for compute isolation. This means your EC2 instances benefit from cryptographically verified platform integrity and hardware-enforced boundaries that prevent unauthorized access to your data without compromising on performance, giving you both the sovereignty controls and the computational power your workloads require. The infrastructure undergoes independent third-party audits, with compliance programs including ISO/IEC 27001:2013, SOC 1/2/3 reports, and Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) C5 attestation.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud: Sovereign Reference Framework defines the specific sovereignty controls across governance independence, operational control, data residency, and technical isolation. This framework is available in AWS Artifact and provides end-to-end visibility through SOC 2 attestation.

Comprehensive service availability
You can access a broad range of AWS services in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud from launch, including Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock for artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) workloads. For compute, you can use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and AWS Lambda. Container orchestration is available through Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) and Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS). Database services include Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). Storage options include Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS), with networking through Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) and security services including AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) and AWS Private Certificate Authority. For an up-to-date list of services, refer to the AWS Capabilities matrix recently published on the AWS Builder Center.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is supported by AWS Partners who are committed to helping you meet your sovereignty requirements. Partners including Adobe, Cisco, Cloudera, Dedalus, Esri, Genesys, GitLab, Mendix, Pega, SAP, SnowFlake, Trend Micro, and Wiz are making their solutions available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, providing you with the tools and services you need across security, data analytics, application development, and industry-specific workloads. This broad partner support helps you build sovereign solutions that combine AWS services with trusted partner technologies.

Significant investment in European infrastructure
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is backed by a €7.8 billion investment in infrastructure, jobs creation, and skills development. This investment is expected to contribute €17.2 billion to the European economy through 2040 and support roughly 2,800 full-time equivalent jobs annually in local businesses.

Some technical details
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is available to all customers, regardless of where they are located. You can access the infrastructure using the partition name aws-eusc and the Region name eusc-de-east-1. A partition is a group of AWS Regions. Each AWS account is scoped to one partition.

The infrastructure supports all standard AWS access methods including the AWS Management Console, AWS SDKs, and the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI), making it straightforward to integrate into your existing workflows and automation. After having created a new root account for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud partition, you start by creating new IAM identities and roles specific to this infrastructure, giving you complete control over access management within the European sovereign environment.

Getting started
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud provides European organisations with enhanced sovereignty controls whilst maintaining access to AWS innovation and capabilities. You can contract for services through Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, with pricing in EUR and billing in any of the eight currencies we support today. The infrastructure uses familiar AWS architecture, service portfolio, and APIs, making it straightforward to build and migrate applications.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud addendum contains the additional contractual commitments for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.

For me as a European, this launch represents the AWS commitment to meeting the specific needs of our continent and providing the cloud capabilities that drive innovation across industries.

Inoltre, sarà possibile estendere l’infrastruttura AWS European Sovereign Cloud con Zone locali AWS dedicate, AWS AI Factories o AWS Outposts in posizioni selezionate, inclusi i data center on-premises.

I controlli tecnici integrati nell’infrastruttura impediscono l’accesso all’AWS European Sovereign Cloud dall’esterno dell’UE.

Investimenti significativi nelle infrastrutture europee

Alcuni dettagli tecnici

Building an “Academy of Uptime” with Kristine Lamberte

Post Syndicated from Michael Kammer original https://blog.zabbix.com/building-an-academy-of-uptime-with-kristine-lamberte/31773/

If you’ve been working with Zabbix (or are planning to), you’re in luck – we’ve recently launched Zabbix Academy, a new learning platform designed to empower IT professionals and monitoring enthusiasts with self-paced, expert-led training.

Zabbix Academy is the brainchild of Kristine Lamberte, Head of Training at Zabbix. Kristine was gracious enough to participate in a short interview where she shares the vision behind it, goes into detail about who it’s targeted at (spoiler alert – everyone!), and ruminates about the future of learning and development at Zabbix.

In the beginning: The vision behind Zabbix Academy

Was there anything in particular that inspired the creation of Zabbix Academy, and how does it fit into Zabbix’s long-term vision for community and professional development?

Zabbix itself is an extremely flexible tool, so we want to offer the same level of flexibility in our professional services. At that moment, we had enough variety in the training offer in terms of different courses for different experience levels, and we no doubt had (and still have) a great level of quality as well as theory and hands-on balance, so this was a natural next step in how we can offer even more for our users.

As for the long-term vision, Zabbix Academy supports the growth of the Zabbix ecosystem, it strengthens our training portfolio without replacing live courses, and it also demonstrates our ongoing investment in the community.

Do you see a primary audience for Zabbix Academy (beginners, professionals, enterprise clients, etc.) or is it meant to be universal?

We are ready to meet you at any stage of your Zabbix journey. The Academy has free quick-start guides in the form of free courses and webinars for those who are just starting, as well as a variety of courses on different levels – introduction, fundamental, intermediate, and advanced. And we will add new paid and free material on a regular basis for all levels.

The Zabbix Academy learning experience

How does Zabbix Academy go about keeping learning hands-on and practical for complicated monitoring scenarios?

All the people involved in the creation of training materials are Zabbix Certified Trainers and Zabbix Certified Experts with multiple years of experience. We have a deep understanding that no training material is complete without good-quality real-life use cases and practical tasks. So, it is natural that in Zabbix Academy, for all the paid courses, you will get not only high-quality theory, but also an option to do labs. Learners can experiment in a safe sandbox setting — so they’re not just reading about Zabbix, they’re actually using it.

Instructors and expertise

How do you ensure consistency and quality across so many different topics and courses?

Practice makes perfect, doesn’t it? It all comes down to the people who are behind the course creation. As I already mentioned, they are experienced Zabbix trainers and experts, but most importantly, they have hands-on experience with Zabbix.

But it is not only about our training content creators; we have close collaboration with other teams, for example, internally, support, developers, integrators, etc., and we also have extremely knowledgeable training partners who are very much involved in the review of new courses and suggestions for what’s coming.

Additionally, learner feedback plays a key role — we continuously refine and update materials based on real-world experience and community input.

Career impact

Can you give a hypothetical scenario of how Zabbix Academy could help an IT professional advance their career or an organization strengthen their monitoring practices?

Personally, I put more emphasis on what knowledge brings to the company. Knowing how to work smarter, more efficiently, use effective automations, troubleshoot faster, and come up with new ways of what and how to monitor is something that everyone should want for their business, and these things come with knowledge. What we offer is structured knowledge, packed and passed down to Zabbix users in the most effective way.

The future

What are your goals for the first year of Zabbix Academy, and how will you measure its success?

In the first year, it is crucial to continuously grow and shape Zabbix Academy. The measure of success? I mean, we created this platform for our users, so the measure of success is based on their satisfaction, engagement, and the impact this platform will have on their day-to-day tasks.

What future expansions or features can learners expect?

We aim to continuously expand the course catalogue, both free and paid content, and establish Zabbix Academy as a trusted source of knowledge for both new and existing users. In short, our goal is for Zabbix Academy to evolve into a dynamic, living resource that grows alongside Zabbix itself.

A final thought

From your perspective as Head of Training, what has been the most rewarding or challenging part of launching Zabbix Academy?

There were no challenges worth mentioning, but when it comes to the most rewarding thing, I can name a few.
First thing is that we established right from the beginning that Zabbix Academy will have all kinds of content, including free content. This once again supports our effort in strengthening our community.

Secondly, we did not compromise on the course quality; we took our classroom-quality courses and transformed them for the self-paced training.

But the most rewarding part has been seeing how excited our community is about Zabbix Academy. The feedback from early users and our partners has been overwhelmingly positive. That shows me that we are on the right track, and now we just need to keep on delivering things we are good at – great quality, hands-on content that allows Zabbix users to reach and exceed their monitoring goals.

Happy New Year! AWS Weekly Roundup: 10,000 AIdeas Competition, Amazon EC2, Amazon ECS Managed Instances and more (January 5, 2026)

Post Syndicated from Prasad Rao original https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/happy-new-year-aws-weekly-roundup-10000-aideas-competition-amazon-ec2-amazon-ecs-managed-instances-and-more-january-5-2026/

Happy New Year! I hope the holidays gave you time to recharge and spend time with your loved ones.

Like every year, I took a few weeks off after AWS re:Invent to rest and plan ahead. I used some of that downtime to plan the next cohort for Become a Solutions Architect (BeSA). BeSA is a free mentoring program that I, along with a few other Amazon Web Services (AWS) employees, volunteer to host as a way to help people excel in their cloud and AI careers. We’re kicking off a 6-week cohort on “Agentic AI on AWS” starting February 21, 2026. Visit the BeSA website to learn more.

There is still time to submit your idea for the Global 10,000 AIdeas Competition and compete for $250,000 in cash prizes, AWS credits, and recognition, including potential featured placement at AWS re:Invent 2026 and across AWS channels.

You will gain hands-on experience with next-generation AI development tools, connect with innovators globally, and access technical enablement through biweekly workshops, AWS User Groups, and AWS Builder Center resources.

The deadline is January 21, 2026, and no code is required yet. If you’re selected as a semifinalist, you’ll build your app then. Your finished app needs to use Kiro for at least part of development, stay within AWS Free Tier limits, and be completely original and not yet published.

If you haven’t yet caught up with all the new releases and announcements from AWS re:Invent 2025, check out our top announcements post or watch the keynotes, innovation talks, and breakout sessions on-demand.

Launches from the last few weeks
I’d like to highlight some launches that got my attention since our last Week in Review on December 15, 2025:

  • Amazon EC2 M8gn and M8gb instances – New M8gn and M8gb instances are powered by AWS Graviton4 processors to deliver up to 30% better compute performance than AWS Graviton3 processors. M8gn instances feature the latest 6th generation AWS Nitro Cards, and offer up to 600 Gbps network bandwidth, the highest network bandwidth among network-optimized EC2 instances. M8gb offer up to 150 Gbps of Amazon EBS bandwidth to provide higher EBS performance compared to same-sized equivalent Graviton4-based instances.
  • AWS Direct Connect supports resilience testing with AWS Fault Injection Service – You can now use AWS Fault Injection Service to test how your applications handle Direct Connect Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) failover in a controlled environment. For example, you can validate that traffic routes to redundant virtual interfaces when a primary virtual interface’s BGP session is disrupted and your applications continue to function as expected.
  • New AWS Security Hub controls in AWS Control Tower – AWS Control Tower now supports 176 additional Security Hub controls in the Control Catalog, covering use cases including security, cost, durability, and operations. With this launch, you can search, discover, enable, and manage these controls directly from AWS Control Tower to govern additional use cases across your multi-account environment.
  • AWS Transform supports network conversion for hybrid data center migrations – You can now use AWS Transform for VMware to automatically convert networks from hybrid data centers. This removes manual network mapping for environments running both VMware and other workloads. The service analyzes VLANs and IP ranges across all exported source networks and maps them to AWS constructs such as virtual private clouds (VPCs), subnets, and security groups.
  • NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Nano available on Amazon Bedrock – Amazon Bedrock now supports NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Nano 30B A3B model, NVIDIA’s latest breakthrough in efficient language modeling that delivers high reasoning performance, built-in tool calling support, and extended context processing with 256K token context window.
  • Amazon EC2 supports Availability Zone ID across its APIs – You can specify the Availability Zone ID (AZ ID) parameter directly in your Amazon EC2 APIs to guarantee consistent placement of resources. AZ IDs are consistent and static identifiers that represent the same physical location across all AWS accounts, helping you optimize resource placement. Prior to this launch, you had to use an AZ name while creating a resource, but these names could map to different physical locations. This mapping made it difficult to ensure resources were always co-located, especially when operating with multiple accounts.

Put Zabbix at your Fingertips with the IntelliTrend Mobile App

Post Syndicated from Wolfgang Alper original https://blog.zabbix.com/put-zabbix-at-your-fingertips-with-the-intellitrend-mobile-app/31830/

The official Zabbix frontend works great on desktop, but it isn’t built for mobile. Monitoring doesn’t end when you step away from your workstation, and a reliable Zabbix mobile app keeps you connected to your Zabbix environment, gives you instant notifications, and allows you to react to problems or just check your host configuration at any time.

With IntelliTrend Mobile for Zabbix, you get a free, feature-rich mobile app for Zabbix, including real-time push notifications, custom mobile dashboards with unique widgets, built-in responsive host and item graphs, a detailed host viewer, and much more!

Mobile-optimized dashboards

Zabbix dashboards are great and powerful, but they are built for desktop screens and don’t always scale well on mobile devices. IntelliTrend Mobile solves that by giving you the ability to build as many dashboards as you need, each tailored to a specific purpose.

One dashboard can focus on infrastructure health, another on critical issues, and another on a single customer or environment. Every dashboard is an independent workspace, featuring its own layout, collection of widgets, and set of filter criteria.

Grid-based dashboard layout

Every IntelliTrend Mobile dashboard is powered by a grid-based layout system that gives you full control over how your dashboard looks and feels. You are not stuck with fixed widget sizes or a predefined structure – you can place widgets exactly where you want them, drag them around freely, and resize them to give each widget the space it really needs.

This grid system keeps everything orderly without boxing you in. Whether you build a clean, minimal dashboard or pack it with data-rich widgets, the editor helps you shape a layout that looks intentional and stays easy to work with.

Highly customizable widgets

The app offers a variety of unique and customizable widgets, each designed to display key monitoring information clearly and efficiently. Each widget comes with its own set of configuration options, so you can decide what it shows and how it shows it. You can filter widgets by hosts, host groups, severities, and much more in order to keep the view focused on what matters the most to you.

Besides that, widgets let you adjust their appearance by hiding or revealing extra details, switching between compact and extended modes or adjusting how much data they present. The result is a dashboard that is fine-tuned to the way you work.

Smart problem management

When issues happen, speed and context are everything. That’s why problem management is the most important part of any Zabbix mobile app. IntelliTrend Mobile is built to keep you informed the moment something goes wrong and to let you take action without wasting time or switching devices.

The problem view in the app gives you complete visibility into open and resolved issues, with filtering, sorting, and search options that let you quickly focus on the problems that require your attention. From the same interface, you can update and acknowledge problems without leaving the app.

Opening a problem takes you straight to a detailed view containing all the relevant information – severity, duration, related hosts, triggers, items, and historical data. What makes this view especially powerful is the ability to jump directly from the problem to the related host, item, or trigger within the app.

With a single tap, you can inspect the affected host, review item metrics, or analyze trigger history, all without leaving the mobile environment. This seamless navigation transforms problem management from a static list of alerts into a fully integrated, on-the-go investigation and resolution workflow.

Real-time response with Smart Alerts

The real game-changer, however, is IntelliTrend Mobile’s Smart Alerts feature. This isn’t just push notifications – it’s intelligent, actionable routing straight to the exact problem view in the app.

The moment a problem occurs, you’re notified in real time. Tap the alert and you’re immediately taken to the detailed problem screen. From there, you can analyze the issue, review metrics and history, acknowledge it, or take corrective action without ever opening the Zabbix web interface. No delays, no barriers, no switching devices!

With Smart Alerts, your team reacts faster, stays informed, and keeps systems running smoothly, turning mobile monitoring from passive alerts into active, on-the-go problem management.

Flexible problem list views

IntelliTrend Mobile lets you choose how problems are displayed in the list. By default, each problem appears as a detailed card showing all relevant information. If you prefer a cleaner overview, you can switch to a compact card view or even a compact list view, for maximum information density.

This flexibility is especially helpful when your Zabbix server generates many problems, allowing you to scan large numbers of problems at a glance while keeping the interface tidy and manageable.

View item and host graphs with mobile-optimized charts

IntelliTrend Mobile reshapes the way you view Zabbix data while you’re on the move. Instead of relying on Zabbix’s static, desktop-focused graphs, the app renders item histories, host graphs, service uptimes, and SLA metrics using fully native, mobile-friendly charts. These charts are responsive, adapting seamlessly to your screen size and orientation for a smooth and clear viewing experience, whether you’re on a phone or tablet.

Every graph is interactive. You can zoom in to inspect a specific time window, pan across the timeline, or hover with your finger to see precise data points. Multiple data series can be toggled on or off, making it easy to focus on the metrics that matter.

You can quickly switch between time periods and pinpoint when an issue started, track its progression, or confirm when it was resolved – without ever opening the Zabbix web interface.

Complete host overview

You can also view all the essential details about any host right from the mobile app. Every host has a detailed view that puts all relevant information at your fingertips, making management simple, efficient, and fully mobile.

For each host, you can quickly see its visible and technical names, current status (enabled or disabled), and maintenance state, including whether data collection continues during maintenance. If the host is monitored by a proxy, you see the proxy that monitors it.

The host details view gives you instant access to all related configurations and objects:

Templates and host groups

You can view all templates assigned to a host and dive into any template’s full details with a single tap, making it easy to understand the monitoring configuration at a glance. Host groups work the same way – just tap a group to see every host it contains, giving you instant insight into related systems.

Host interfaces

IntelliTrend Mobile gives you a complete view of each host interface, including agent, SNMP, JMX, and IPMI types. For every interface, you can see its IP address, DNS name, port, and the interface type configured in Zabbix.

The app also shows the current availability status, highlighting interfaces that are unreachable or experiencing errors. This makes it easy to quickly identify connectivity problems, verify which monitoring protocols are active, and troubleshoot issues with data collection.

Macros

Macros are displayed with full detail (including type, value, and description) so you can verify configuration settings quickly or troubleshoot dynamically, all without leaving the host view.

Inventory

The host inventory view in IntelliTrend Mobile gives you full access to the complete Zabbix host inventory. All inventory fields configured in Zabbix are displayed directly in the app, giving you a complete overview of the host’s recorded details. You can also see the inventory mode for the host (Disabled, Manual, or Automatic) so it’s immediately clear how the inventory is being managed.

Open and resolved problems

From the host details page, you can jump straight into all open or resolved problems related to that specific host. One tap takes you directly to a filtered problem list, making it effortless to review recent problems or check the current state of the host without navigating through multiple menus.

Items, triggers, and graphs

All items, triggers, and graphs tied to the host are just one step away. Each entry opens a filtered list focused solely on that host, letting you move from the host view into any related object instantly. Whether you need to inspect a value, review a trigger, or explore a graph, the app keeps the entire chain of information connected.

Scripts

Execute host scripts directly from your mobile device, whether you’re restarting a service, collecting diagnostics, or triggering an automated workflow. It’s a fast, practical way to take action remotely, enabling real operations work even when you’re away from your desk.

With all these features combined, the host details view becomes a powerful, fully mobile workflow. Everything you need to monitor, analyze, and take action is right at your fingertips, making host management faster, more efficient, and truly on-the-go.

Customize your views

Favorites

You can create favorites for specific hosts or host groups and quickly switch your global scope to focus on them. Once a favorite is active, the app automatically filters all dashboards and list pages to show only data related to that host or host group.

Favorites make it easier to concentrate on the systems you manage most often, so you don’t have to reapply filters or navigate through long lists every time. You can switch between favorites at any time, giving you a fast way to move between different parts of your environment.

Layout modes

Everyone works differently, so the app comes with useful customization options. In addition to the filtering and sorting available on every list page, you can switch between different layout modes for all list pages.

Choose from the standard layout, a compact card layout, or a compact list layout for maximum information density. This lets you decide how much information you want to see at once and allows you to apply layout preferences individually for each page or set them globally in the app settings.

Many more features

The app already supports a wide range of features designed to give you full visibility into your Zabbix environment. Beyond the previously mentioned features, the app includes many more features, such as accessing services and SLAs to keep track of service performance and availability, explore templates, and view triggers, items, and graphs in detail.

But our development doesn’t stop here. We are constantly expanding app functionality and improving existing features based on user feedback. If you haven’t tried the app yet, now is a great time! We’d love to hear your honest thoughts about what works well, what could be better, and which features you’d like to see next. Your feedback helps to shape the future of IntelliTrend Mobile, and we take every suggestion seriously.

AWS Weekly Roundup: AWS re:Invent keynote recap, on-demand videos, and more (December 8, 2025)

Post Syndicated from Donnie Prakoso original https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/aws-weekly-roundup-aws-reinvent-keynote-recap-on-demand-videos-and-more-december-8-2025/

The week after AWS re:Invent builds on the excitement and energy of the event and is a good time to learn more and understand how the recent announcements can help you solve your challenges and unlock new opportunities. As usual, we have you covered with our top announcements of AWS re:Invent 2025 that you can learn all about here.

For me, one moment stood out above all the technical announcements: watching Rafi (Raphael Francis Quisumbing) from the Philippines receive the Now Go Build Award from Werner Vogels. Rafi has been an AWS Hero since 2015 and co-lead of AWS User Group Philippines since 2013. His dedication to building communities and empowering developers across the region embodies what this award represents. You can read more about Rafi on The Kernel. Congrats, Rafi!

The keynote recap: Agents, renaissance, and the developer’s role
This year’s AWS re:Invent keynotes painted a clear picture of where we’re headed.

Matt Garman emphasized that developers are “the heart of AWS” and that “freedom to invent” remains AWS’s core mission after 20 years. He focused on AI agents as the next inflection point: “AI assistants are starting to give way to AI agents that can perform tasks and automate on your behalf. This is where we’re starting to see material business returns from your AI investments.”

Swami Sivasubramanian highlighted the transformative moment we’re in: “For the first time in history, we can describe what we want to accomplish in natural language, and agents generate the plan. They write the code, call the necessary tools, and execute the complete solution.” AWS is building production-ready infrastructure that’s secure, reliable, and scalable—purpose-built for the non-deterministic nature of agents.

Peter DeSantis and Dave Brown reinforced that the core attributes AWS has obsessed over for 20 years—security, availability, performance, elasticity, cost, and agility—are more important than ever in the AI era. Dave Brown showcased Graviton and AWS’s custom silicon innovations that deliver these attributes at scale.

Werner Vogels delivered his final keynote after 14 years, introducing the concept of the “renaissance developer”—someone who is curious, thinks in systems, and communicates effectively. His message about AI and developer evolution resonated: “Will AI take my job? Maybe. Will AI make me obsolete? Absolutely not… if you evolve.” He emphasized that developers must be owners: “The work is yours, not that of the tools. You build it, you own it.”

Last week’s launches
Here are the launches that caught my attention not yet covered in our top announcements of AWS re:Invent 2025 post:

  • Kiro Autonomous Agent – Building on Kiro’s general availability in November with team features, AWS introduced an autonomous agent that maintains awareness across sessions, learns from pull requests and feedback, and handles bug triage and code coverage improvements spanning multiple repositories. “Orders of magnitude more efficient” than first-generation AI coding tools, Matt Garman said. Kiro is now Amazon’s standard AI development environment company-wide.
  • Multimodal Retrieval for Bedrock Knowledge Bases (GA) – Build AI-powered search and question-answering applications that work across text, images, audio, and video files. Developers can now ingest multimodal content with full control of parsing, chunking, embedding, and vector storage options, then send text or image queries to retrieve relevant segments across all media types.
  • AWS Interconnect – Multicloud (Preview) – Quickly establish private, secure, high-speed network connections with dedicated bandwidth and built-in resiliency between Amazon VPCs and other cloud environments. Starting in preview with Google Cloud as the first launch partner, with Microsoft Azure support coming in 2026.

Amazon Bedrock adds reinforcement fine-tuning simplifying how developers build smarter, more accurate AI models

Post Syndicated from Donnie Prakoso original https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/improve-model-accuracy-with-reinforcement-fine-tuning-in-amazon-bedrock/

Organizations face a challenging trade-off when adapting AI models to their specific business needs: settle for generic models that produce average results, or tackle the complexity and expense of advanced model customization. Traditional approaches force a choice between poor performance with smaller models or the high costs of deploying larger model variants and managing complex infrastructure. Reinforcement fine-tuning is an advanced technique that trains models using feedback instead of massive labeled datasets, but implementing it typically requires specialized ML expertise, complicated infrastructure, and significant investment—with no guarantee of achieving the accuracy needed for specific use cases.

Today, we’re announcing reinforcement fine-tuning in Amazon Bedrock, a new model customization capability that creates smarter, more cost-effective models that learn from feedback and deliver higher-quality outputs for specific business needs. Reinforcement fine-tuning uses a feedback-driven approach where models improve iteratively based on reward signals, delivering 66% accuracy gains on average over base models.

Amazon Bedrock automates the reinforcement fine-tuning workflow, making this advanced model customization technique accessible to everyday developers without requiring deep machine learning (ML) expertise or large labeled datasets.

How reinforcement fine-tuning works
Reinforcement fine-tuning is built on top of reinforcement learning principles to address a common challenge: getting models to consistently produce outputs that align with business requirements and user preferences.

While traditional fine-tuning requires large, labeled datasets and expensive human annotation, reinforcement fine-tuning takes a different approach. Instead of learning from fixed examples, it uses reward functions to evaluate and judge which responses are considered good for particular business use cases. This teaches models to understand what makes a quality response without requiring massive amounts of pre-labeled training data, making advanced model customization in Amazon Bedrock more accessible and cost-effective.

Here are the benefits of using reinforcement fine-tuning in Amazon Bedrock:

  • Ease of use – Amazon Bedrock automates much of the complexity, making reinforcement fine-tuning more accessible to developers building AI applications. Models can be trained using existing API logs in Amazon Bedrock or by uploading datasets as training data, eliminating the need for labeled datasets or infrastructure setup.
  • Better model performance – Reinforcement fine-tuning improves model accuracy by 66% on average over base models, enabling optimization for price and performance by training smaller, faster, and more efficient model variants. This works with Amazon Nova 2 Lite model, improving quality and price performance for specific business needs, with support for additional models coming soon.
  • Security – Data remains within the secure AWS environment throughout the entire customization process, mitigating security and compliance concerns.

The capability supports two complementary approaches to provide flexibility for optimizing models:

  • Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) uses rule-based graders for objective tasks like code generation or math reasoning.
  • Reinforcement Learning from AI Feedback (RLAIF) employs AI-based judges for subjective tasks like instruction following or content moderation.

Getting started with reinforcement fine-tuning in Amazon Bedrock
Let’s walk through creating a reinforcement fine-tuning job.

First, I access the Amazon Bedrock console. Then, I navigate to the Custom models page. I choose Create and then choose Reinforcement fine-tuning job.

I start by entering the name of this customization job and then select my base model. At launch, reinforcement fine-tuning supports Amazon Nova 2 Lite, with support for additional models coming soon.

Next, I need to provide training data. I can use my stored invocation logs directly, eliminating the need to upload separate datasets. I can also upload new JSONL files or select existing datasets from Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Reinforcement fine-tuning automatically validates my training dataset and supports the OpenAI Chat Completions data format. If I provide invocation logs in the Amazon Bedrock invoke or converse format, Amazon Bedrock automatically converts them to the Chat Completions format.

The reward function setup is where I define what constitutes a good response. I have two options here. For objective tasks, I can select Custom code and write custom Python code that gets executed through AWS Lambda functions. For more subjective evaluations, I can select Model as judge to use foundation models (FMs) as judges by providing evaluation instructions.

Here, I select Custom code, and I create a new Lambda function or use an existing one as a reward function. I can start with one of the provided templates and customize it for my specific needs.

I can optionally modify default hyperparameters like learning rate, batch size, and epochs.

For enhanced security, I can configure virtual private cloud (VPC) settings and AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) encryption to meet my organization’s compliance requirements. Then, I choose Create to start the model customization job.

During the training process, I can monitor real-time metrics to understand how the model is learning. The training metrics dashboard shows key performance indicators including reward scores, loss curves, and accuracy improvements over time. These metrics help me understand whether the model is converging properly and if the reward function is effectively guiding the learning process.

When the reinforcement fine-tuning job is completed, I can see the final job status on the Model details page.

Once the job is completed, I can deploy the model with a single click. I select Set up inference, then choose Deploy for on-demand.

Here, I provide a few details for my model.

After deployment, I can quickly evaluate the model’s performance using the Amazon Bedrock playground. This helps me to test the fine-tuned model with sample prompts and compare its responses against the base model to validate the improvements. I select Test in playground.

The playground provides an intuitive interface for rapid testing and iteration, helping me confirm that the model meets my quality requirements before integrating it into production applications.
